Artistic map of Cork

I’ve always had a fascination with maps and wanted to create an artistic map to celebrate that place we call home. The map is geographically precise - you will recognise the streets, parks and laneways if you follow them around, everything in its right place. You’ll see the Lough, the pond in Fitzgerald’s park and the Quad in UCC. I also wanted the map to function as a colourful contemporary piece of art in its own right.

Earlier this year, I was inspired by some sunlight shining through a stained glass window. The geometric shards of glass with warm hues in the middle, sparkling and radiating out to pinks, purples, greens and blues. I just loved that explosion of warm welcoming sunshine through the window - it reminded me of Cork and gave me the inspiration to create this artistic map of Cork.

I’m delighted with the finished piece and looking forward to hanging it up here at home to add a splash of sunshine to the room!
